A Look Back at 2019: Does 5G Equal Massive MIMO?

As we say good-bye to 2019, we look back at some of our most shared blogs of the year. Will 5G deployments use massive MIMO antennas? It’s one of the questions people are asking. In this vlog, Marty Zimmerman explains why it one of several options to be considered for implementing 5G in your network.

Editor’s Note: As we say good-bye to 2019, we look back at some of our most shared blogs of the year. We covered a wide range of network infrastructure topics, and hope you enjoy revisiting some of these popular posts. This blog first appeared on Aug. 6, 2019. New blogs will start on Jan. 2, 2020 and our 2020 industry trends pieces will begin on Jan. 7, 2020.

While 5G is starting to be deployed in 2019, a lot of people are asking questions about how 5G will be realized.

One question they are asking is whether 5G deployments will exclusively use massive MIMO antennas or whether massive MIMO is just one of many tools that might be used for 5G.

In the video below, I discuss some of the reasons why massive MIMO is not always the best way to implement 5G in the network. Feel free to leave me a comment below with any questions you may have.
