1 - Point of Presence (POP) Sites: These are strategic locations that provide presence to handoff services to nearby customers, and can be used typically for business customers; in FTTH context; and even inside data centers.
2 - Data Centers: Powerhouses of computing and storage, data centers host applications, websites, and cloud services.
3 - Central Offices / Exchanges: Also known as telephone exchanges, they manage local connections and provide essential services.
4 - Core Network: Composed of several sites to connect regional central offices together, aggregating traffic via the metro network to the core of the network, and interconnecting traffic from fixed and mobile networks between different servicer providers and data centers.
5 - Mobile Switching Sites: Vital for mobile networks, these sites handle call routing and data transmission.
6 - Cable Headends: Where cable TV and broadband communications are received, processed, and distributed to subscribers.

Driven by virtualization, cloudification and artificial intelligence, Central Offices and Headends evolve towards Data Centers. That means the introduction of novel architectures such as leaf-spine topologies, using parallel optics and multi-fiber connectors, calling for a structured cabling approach.
Upgrading the Core and Metro Networks
In our data-driven era, with annual bandwidth growth reaching up to 30%, upgrading aggregation and core networks is no longer a luxury—it’s a necessity. New router platforms take advantage of coherent optics now offering speeds of 400G, 800G and more, helping operators to stay ahead of the ever-increasing traffic on their networks.
Buildout of New FTTH and PON Networks
Enhanced connectivity and faster speeds delivered by FTTH and PON networks play a crucial role in meeting consumer expectations. As these networks rapidly expand, central office hubs or cabinet locations become essential for housing Optical Line Terminals (OLTs) that illuminate the network.
Upgrading Existing FTTH Networks
To stay competitive and anticipate growing demand in their access networks, service providers globally look to upgrade existing FTTH networks from GPON to XGS-PON and beyond. Preparing for future standards like the 25G MSA or 50GPON is crucial. Integrating gigabit connectivity into existing networks improves performance and reliability. Transforming Cable Headends
To meet the escalating demands for faster speeds and enhanced performance of the Hybrid-Fiber Coax (HFC) network, cable head-ends are being virtualized as distributed access architecture and new DOCSIS technologies are adopted, relying on gigabit hub to node connectivity.
